Senior Frontend Engineer

Hi! We are AMBOSS and we are looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our Educator Experience team or our Course Experience team, and shape the future of medical education with us! About AMBOSS AMBOSS is a dynamic learning and clinical decision support tool committed to empowering physicians globally to deliver optimal care. Since our inception in 2012, we've harnessed cutting-edge technology to transform the way physicians acquire and apply scientific knowledge. Each AMBOSSian is passionate about being the champion of clinicians today - this motivates and unites us each day towards success. And what does success look like? When a clinician or med student tells us, “AMBOSS makes practicing medicine easier and enjoyable. I love what I do, and a big part is because of AMBOSS.” Why can this position be exciting for you? We are AMBOSS, and we’re looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer in the Educator Experience team & the Course Experience team. Engineers at AMBOSS are at the forefront of shaping user experience for doctors and students, helping them make critical decisions, ultimately impacting the healthcare of billions of people worldwide. We are looking for someone with a passion for getting the most out of technology and people, setting the pace and direction of excellence for our frontend craft. We work AI-first: agentic tools like Claude Code are part of our daily engineering workflow, and we are looking for someone ready to lead the way in how software gets built in this new era. Join our agile team on one of two missions: to enable institutions (like educational clinics, medical schools) to use AMBOSS resources efficiently and effectively when teaching their learners (e.g. residents and students); or empowering doctors to further their education with expertly crafted courses . You will: • Lead frontend engineering projects within both teams, from conception to completion. • Set the bar for best practices in code health, testing, accessibility, and maintainability, and drive their adoption across the team. • Champion our AI-first way of working: use agentic tools (like Claude Code) across the development lifecycle, and help the team get more out of them. • Collaborate with Product and Design to shape requirements, turning ambiguous ideas into well-scoped technical plans. • Address Ad-Hoc requests from customer support channels. • Mentor engineers and share your knowledge within the AMBOSS community, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and growth. You bring: • Deep hands-on expertise with modern JavaScript, TypeScript, and React, and curiosity about emerging frontend technologies and practices. • Proven experience integrating AI coding agents such as Claude Code (or similar) into real production work, and the judgment to know where they excel and where they fail. • Experience across the full development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and system design through coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. • Experience working with shared design systems and component libraries, and integrating APIs (GraphQL and/or REST) from the frontend. • Deep understanding of accessibility: you treat WCAG guidelines as the baseline, not the ceiling, and advocate for inclusive design in every architectural decision. • Performance optimization expertise: bundle sizes, tree-shaking, lazy loading, and how architectural decisions affect performance across devices and network conditions. • A testing and quality mindset, with experience in component testing strategies (unit, integration, visual regression) and building maintainable test suites. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, able to articulate technical concepts and trade-offs to engineers, designers, and stakeholders. • Curiosity, being interested in optimizing processes, learning domain’s ins and outs. • Taking initiatives, having analytical mindset, being proactive and solution-oriented. • A strong sense of ownership, driving topics end-to-end and mentoring others along the way. Which team is the right fit? No need to decide that now. Through a few rounds of interviews, we'll get to talk in more detail, and together we'll factor in interview performance, team fit, and your own preference. We're looking forward to meeting you! Benefits: AMBOSSians tell us that innovative work keeps them energized, and employee benefits help them to feel appreciated and empowered. We invest in every AMBOSSians with our employee benefits package, crafted to support financial, physical, and mental health and work-life harmony. Check out all of our employee benefits below: https://go.amboss.com/the-amboss-prescription-de We believe that diversity is a powerful driver of innovation and progress. An Introduction to Primer Primer is the unified infrastructure for global payments. We give finance and payments teams the visibility and control to reduce complexity, improve performance, and capture more revenue - all from a single platform. Backed by Sofina, Peak XV Partners, ICONIQ, Tencent, Accel, and Balderton, we're building the payments layer the world's best companies rely on. Watch our showcase > https://primer.io/the-primer-showcase Read up on our $100m Series C https://www.primer.io/blog/series-c Learn more about our culture > https://primer.io/careers Which team will you be joining? The merchant experience is only as good as the platform behind it — and most of that experience is the interface itself. The Account Experience team builds and owns the full platform merchants use to interact with Primer — from initial setup through to day-to-day operations, and increasingly through Primer AI Companion as a first-class interface. The team spans several connected areas: Primer Companion, Merchant Account Setup, Monitors, Workflows, Auditing, and the cross-cutting concerns that keep the whole merchant experience cohesive. As Staff Engineer you'll set front-end technical direction across these areas, not within a single one. You'll work across 2-3 teams, partner with multiple stakeholders, and stay hands-on in the implementation that matters most. The team runs a 'you build it, you own it' model: engineers own their work from design through to production. The stack includes TypeScript, React, and modern front-end tooling, sitting on top of services in Python, AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform. What will you be doing? • Setting and driving front-end technical strategy across the Account Experience teams, from architecture and component-system decisions through to hands-on implementation where it counts • Owning the architecture of a complex, data-dense merchant platform — the patterns, state management, and performance characteristics that hold up as the surface area grows • Shaping how Primer AI Companion matures as a first-class merchant interface, including the front-end architecture that makes a conversational surface feel native to the platform • Holding the experience coherent across Account Setup, Monitors, Workflows, and Auditing — building the shared component and design-system foundations that stop the areas drifting apart • Leading engineers across teams without direct authority, through code, design reviews, and technical mentorship that raises the front-end bar around you • Owning the things that are easy to neglect: accessibility, performance budgets, and front-end observability as first-class concerns, not afterthoughts • Partnering with Product and Design, and with backend engineers across teams, to shape decisions where front-end constraints or opportunities are material What We're Looking For • Demonstrable experience operating at staff or principal level: setting front-end technical direction across multiple teams, not just within one • Deep front-end engineering expertise with TypeScript and React, and a track record of architecting complex, long-lived web applications • Real fluency in the things that separate good front-end from great: state management at scale, performance, accessibility, and component-system design • The kind of judgment that earns trust fast — engineers follow your technical lead because you're right, not because of your title • Enough comfort across the stack to reason about the APIs and services your front-end depends on, and to partner with backend engineers as an equal • Strong written and verbal communication, including making complex technical decisions legible to Product, Design, and non-technical stakeholders • Comfort working in payments, fintech, or platform contexts is welcome, though depth of engineering matters more than the specific industry. You May Not Like It Here If • You prefer a defined lane — at Staff level you'll be expected to find and shape the work across several teams, not wait for it to be handed to you • You think of front-end as the layer that just renders what the backend sends — here it's a first-class engineering discipline with real architectural weight • You want a QA team to catch your bugs — we don't have one, and we don't plan to • Remote-first feels like a compromise to you — for us it's deliberate, and it demands real discipline and strong async habits A TYPICAL INTERVIEW PROCESS • An initial intro call with a Talent Partner • An interview with the Hiring Manager • Challenge Stage - Contextualised to the role • A final, values-alignment interview WHAT'S THE CULTURE LIKE AT PRIMER? We're building a culture where people can do their best work and be proud of the impact they have. You'll be working with people who are mission-driven, smart, and reflective, and who are genuinely invested in building exceptional products and delivering …
