About the role As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across your team and adjacent teams, solving the highest-scope and most complex problems in your area. You will lead large, cross-cutting backend initiatives, drive our modular architecture strategy, and define the standards that let teams move faster without compromising quality, security, reliability, or operability. This is a technical leadership role that combines deep backend expertise, systems judgment, product judgment, and influence across organizational boundaries. You will work with Product, Frontend, Infrastructure, Security, Data, Engineering Managers, and engineers across product groups, bringing subject matter expertise, and you will do it without relying on formal authority. Lead modernization of the monolith and legacy backends toward modular, reusable, and appropriately independently operated systems — while preventing fragmentation and service sprawl. • Set the Standards: Define and improve standards for APIs, contracts, compatibility, schema evolution, testing, security, performance, observability, operability, and maintainability — plus the build, test, deploy, release, rollback, and production-readiness practices needed to operate modular features safely. • Establish Shared Patterns: Create the patterns for dependency management, data ownership, eventing, failure isolation, service maturity, and operational documentation. Establish Go service patterns and Kubernetes operating practices where they matter to our production estate, and guide Rust adoption where it solves a real systems, security, performance, or supply-chain problem. • Own What You Build in Production: Take part in on-call and incident response for the systems your teams own, act as a technical escalation point during complex incidents, and turn what you learn into architectural and operational improvements that prevent recurrence. • Influence and Partner: Shape technical direction across teams without formal authority, and partner with Product and Engineering leadership on platform-level roadmap decisions and investment trade-offs. • Grow Engineers: Mentor Senior and Intermediate engineers, shepherd technical debt reduction and reusable patterns that improve throughput, and raise the technical capability of the wider team. • Lead AI Adoption: Lead …

Your mission Fires and unplanned downtime cost industrial companies millions. We catch both before they happen. AVIAN's Swiss-engineered infrared cameras and AI monitoring detect abnormal heat inside industrial facilities at the point of inception. One signal does two jobs: it flags fire risk before a fire starts, and equipment wear before it becomes an unplanned shutdown. Our system has already prevented thousands of fire events and saved millions of dollars in downtime prevented in live operations across wood processing, recycling, and paper. We are also driving into new, exciting verticals like data centers and battery storage facilities with our powerful, adaptable solution. Insurers are partnering with us, and the demand is real. What limits us is reach. Thousands of Germany facilities carry the exact risk we were built to catch and have never heard our name, and inbound will never get to them. You are joining our founding remote sales team in Germany, reporting to the CEO. You are the first voice a prospect hears, and every meeting you book is pipeline our account executives did not have to build themselves. What you'll own: • The phones . Most of your day goes into starting conversations with people who did not ask to hear from you: plant managers, maintenance and reliability leaders, safety leaders, operations and executive buyers. You get them talking, you keep them talking, and you book the meeting. Email and LinkedIn support the calls, and you decide who to target and why before you reach out. • Trade shows . Before every show, you work the attendee list to line up meetings at our booth. After, you follow up with everyone who stopped by while it is still warm. Trade shows are one of our best sources of pipeline. • Qualification and handoff . You find out quickly whether the pain is serious, whether there is a reason to move now, and whether the person can make it happen. Then you brief the account executive: what hurts, who is involved, why now. • Doors into sister sites . Many customers run several facilities. Once one plant is happy, you find the right people at the other sites and book the first conversation. • Your stack . ZoomInfo to find the right companies and contacts, HubSpot to run outreach and keep the pipeline clean, and AI tools like Claude and Artisan to research an account and draft first-pass outreach in seconds. The tools do the grunt work. The judgment and the conversations are yours. • The playbook . You write down what works and pass it on: the openers that land, the objections you learned to handle, the target lists that keep producing. The person who picks up the phone is rarely the person who signs, so you map the account and work toward the people who matter. The hook changes with the person, too. Some are terrified of a fire, others are sick of a line that keeps going down. What success looks like in year one: • The meetings you book become pipeline, not calendar filler. • The account executives trust what you hand them, because you qualify honestly instead of padding your numbers. • You find a repeatable way to get plant managers on the phone and keep them there. • You document what works, so the SDRs after you ramp faster. Your profile Who you are: • You're a hunter, and you don't quit . You go find leads instead of waiting for them. You hear no all day and dial again, and rejection doesn't stick to you. • You're sharp on the phone . You can get a busy plant manager to give you two minutes, think on your feet when they push back, and sound like someone worth talking to. The phone is where you do your best work. • You're naturally curious . You'll be calling people who run industrial operations. You don't need to know their world yet, but you have to want to understand it. • You're competitive, coachable, and after the next seat . You keep score, you take feedback fast, and SDR is your way in rather than your ceiling. Do this well, and you will not be an SDR here for long. • You're organized . Clean CRM (we run HubSpot), disciplined follow-up, nothing forgotten. • You use AI as an edge . You already reach for tools like Claude to move faster, and you know when it helps and when to just pick up the phone. You might be coming from another SDR or BDR seat, inside sales, a call-heavy account or support role, recruiting, real estate, or hospitality. Anywhere you won people over by talking to them. Bonus points if you've prospected into our core verticals (wood processing, recycling, paper) or built relationships with plant operators, safety leaders, or facilities teams that open doors. If you don't tick every box but you know you can get people on the phone and turn cold outreach into pipeline, apply anyway and tell us why. Why us? What we offer: • Compensation : competitive base plus uncapped variable tied to the meetings and pipeline you generate. • A path up : SDR is the on-ramp, not the destination, and the people who prove themselves …

Account Executive

Your mission Fires and unplanned downtime cost industrial companies millions. We catch both before they happen. AVIAN's Swiss-engineered infrared cameras and AI monitoring detect abnormal heat inside industrial facilities at the point of inception. One signal does two jobs: it flags fire risk before a fire starts, and equipment wear before it becomes an unplanned shutdown. Our system has already prevented thousands of fire events and saved millions of dollars in downtime prevented in live operations across wood processing, recycling and paper. We are also driving in new, exciting verticals like data centers and battery storage facilities with our powerful, adaptable solution. Customers are coming to us and insurers are partnering with us, but that demand is a fraction of the opportunity. Thousands of facilities have never heard our name. You are joining our founding sales team in Germany as one of its first remote Account Executives , reporting to the CEO and helping us scale toward $10M+ ARR . What you'll own: • The full cycle . New ARR and expansion deals from first contact to signature: discovery, demo, site visit, ROI case, proposal, negotiation, close. You sell to operations, maintenance and reliability, safety, procurement, and executive buyers, often inside the same account. • Your pipeline . You prospect directly into plant managers, maintenance and reliability leaders, safety leaders, and executives at high-risk facilities, consistently, not only when the funnel thins. Marketing, trade shows, partner referrals, and SDR-booked meetings are a bonus on top. The number is yours, and reaching it means working the phones hard every week. • The business case . You turn operational pain into an urgent financial argument: unplanned downtime, damaged equipment, lost inventory, rising insurance requirements. Some buyers move over what a fire would cost once, others over what a failing bearing costs every quarter. • The account after signature . You do not hand the customer off. You keep the relationship and grow it. • The feedback loop . You work closely with marketing, product, and implementation, and what you learn from the market shapes our pitch, pricing, and roadmap. Land and expand: • Land . The first purchase is usually one site, often one high-risk area inside it: a shredder line, a baler, a dryer, a chip pile. You win it by making the risk and the financial case impossible to ignore. • Prove . You stay close through installation and the first months of monitoring. Early results earn you the right to ask for more: a heat event caught before it spread, a bearing flagged before it seized, a cleaner insurance conversation. • Expand within the site . Coverage grows from that first area to the whole facility as trust builds and the early saves add up. • Expand across the account . Most customers run several facilities, some run dozens. One plant that trusts us becomes the reference for the next, and eventually the group standard. You work upward to corporate operations, safety, and risk, and outward to every other site. This takes patience and emotional intelligence. Plant managers guard their budgets and their independence. Corporate teams want one standard across every site. You need credibility with both, and going to corporate too early can cost you the plant champion who got you in. The account stays yours as it grows, and every expansion inside it pays you again. Some of your biggest wins in year two will come from accounts you landed in year one. What success looks like in year one: • You close new customers and expansions that put AVIAN on the path to $10M+ ARR. • You self-source most of your own pipeline. • You turn your first sites into proof points, and at least one into a second site. • For your largest accounts, you build plans that map every facility, every stakeholder, and a path to standardizing on AVIAN. • You document what works, so the hires after you ramp faster. Your profile Who you are: • You've closed complex B2B deals . Technical products, multiple stakeholders, real negotiation, and you've consistently hit or beaten quota doing it. • You build your own pipeline . Startup, scale-up, or a scrappy team inside a larger industrial company, you have sold where nobody handed you leads. Many of your best deals started with you reaching out cold, and you can name them. • You grow accounts over years, not quarters . You can point to a customer that started small and got much bigger because of how you managed it, and name the people you won over at each stage. • You read operational buyers well . Plant managers, maintenance and reliability leaders, and safety directors can tell within five minutes whether you understand their world. You can also read who is skeptical, who feels threatened, and who quietly decides. Here that is the job, not a soft skill. • You're structured . Clean CRM (we run HubSpot), honest forecasts, disciplined next steps, strong …
