Good to know
The net is pay after social contributions, before tax. With a settlement permit, income tax is assessed separately; without one, a withholding tax is deducted. Cross-border workers from Germany pay at most 4.5 percent withholding tax. Cross-border workers from France pay withholding tax in Geneva and the cantons outside the 1983 agreement, but pay the tax in France in that agreement’s eight cantons.

How minimum wages work in Switzerland
Switzerland has no national minimum wage. Five cantons have introduced one: Neuchâtel, Jura, Ticino, Geneva and Basel-Stadt. What counts is where the work is usually done: Basel-Stadt states expressly that the place of residence plays no role, and Neuchâtel covers every employment relationship usually carried out in the canton. Cross-border workers are therefore covered there too.
Geneva, Neuchâtel and Basel-Stadt adjust the amount every year. In Jura the government sets it, and it has been 21.40 francs since July 2024. Ticino uses a lower or an upper threshold depending on the sector.
The calculator turns the hourly rate into a monthly gross by multiplying weekly hours by 52 weeks and dividing by 12 months, the method in the canton of Neuchâtel’s guidance. In Geneva, 40 weekly hours give 4,262.27 francs gross a month.
Social contributions come off the gross: AHV/IV/EO, unemployment insurance, non-occupational accident insurance and the occupational pension (BVG). The calculator uses the same 2026 figures as the Swiss net salary calculator. Taxes and health insurance premiums are not deducted from Swiss pay and are therefore not included.
