German Pension Points Calculator 2026

One German pension point is what you earn by making exactly the average wage of all insured people for a year. This calculator shows how many points your salary earns a year, how many add up over your remaining working life and what monthly pension that is worth at today’s pension value.

Good to know

The calculation uses the pension value of 42.52 euro, which is adjusted every year on 1 July. The result is therefore a model calculation with the 2026 parameters, not the figure that will appear on a future statement. Nor is it a purchasing-power forecast: whether the amount still buys as much in twenty years depends on whether the pension value rises faster than prices.

  • The calculation uses an access factor of 1.0, meaning retirement at the standard retirement age. Retiring earlier costs 0.3 percent per month, so two years early means a permanent reduction of 7.2 percent.
  • Health and long-term care contributions still come off the gross pension later, and part of the pension is taxable. Both depend on your situation at the time and are not included here.

Non-binding projection under §64 and §70 SGB VI with the 2026 reference figures. It assumes a constant salary and a constant pension value; child-raising periods, gaps in employment and early retirement reductions are not included. Only your statement from the Deutsche Rentenversicherung is binding.

How many pension points do I earn per year?

German pension points in 2026 come from your annual gross divided by the average wage of 51,944 euro, at most 1.95 points a year, and each point has been worth 42.52 euro of monthly pension since 1 July 2026.

The formula

Pension points per year = annual gross divided by the average wage of 51,944 euro, capped at the contribution ceiling of 101,400 euro. Monthly pension = total points times an access factor of 1.0 times a pension type factor of 1.0 times the current pension value of 42.52 euro.

Worked example

Example: 4,000 EUR gross a month earns 0.92 pension points a year. Over 30 years that adds up to 27.72 points, worth 1,178.75 EUR of gross monthly pension at today’s pension value.

How German pension points work

The German statutory pension does not count in euro but in Entgeltpunkte, pension points. One point stands for a year in which you earned exactly the average of all insured people. In 2026 that average wage is provisionally 51,944 euro a year (Anlage 1 SGB VI).

The calculation itself is simple: your contribution-liable annual gross divided by the average wage of the same year gives your points for that year (§70 para. 1 SGB VI). Earning 25,972 euro gives half a point, earning 77,916 euro gives one and a half.

The contribution ceiling caps it at the top. In 2026 it stands at 101,400 euro a year. Income above it is free of contributions and therefore earns no further points, so more than 1.95 points a year is impossible.

What a point is worth as pension is set by the current pension value. Since 1 July 2026 that is 42.52 euro of monthly pension per point. The full formula in §64 SGB VI multiplies your points by the access factor and the pension type factor, both 1.0 for an ordinary old-age pension without reductions.

The price of a point is worth knowing: at a contribution rate of 18.6 percent one point costs 9,661.58 euro in contributions, split equally between employee and employer. Against that stands 42.52 euro of pension a month, or 510.24 euro a year.

The key caveat: the pension value rises almost every year, and so does the average wage. A projection with today’s figures is therefore a model calculation with the 2026 parameters, neither the nominal amount in thirty years nor an inflation-adjusted forecast. The official statement from the Deutsche Rentenversicherung also works with fixed parameters.

Frequently asked questions

What is one pension point worth in 2026?
Since 1 July 2026 one point brings 42.52 euro of monthly pension, so 510.24 euro a year. The value is adjusted every year on 1 July and broadly follows wage growth.
How much do I have to earn for one pension point?
Exactly the average wage of the year, provisionally 51,944 euro gross in 2026, so around 4,329 euro a month. Earning less collects proportionally fewer points, earning more collects proportionally more.
How many points can I earn in a year at most?
About 1.95 points. No more is possible because only income up to the contribution ceiling of 101,400 euro a year is subject to contributions. Anything above raises neither the contribution nor the pension.
What does one pension point cost in contributions?
At a contribution rate of 18.6 percent on the average wage it is 9,661.58 euro for one point. Employee and employer each pay half, so around 4,830.79 euro falls on you.
Why will my actual pension be higher than shown here?
Because the pension value is adjusted every year. This calculator deliberately uses the 2026 value so the result stays comparable in today’s euro. The nominal amount in thirty years would be higher, but so would prices, and by how much is not knowable today.
What happens if I retire early?
The access factor then falls by 0.003 per month, meaning 0.3 percent. Two years early is 7.2 percent less pension, permanently. This calculator keeps the access factor at 1.0 and surfaces the reduction as a note only.
