How your hourly wage becomes net salary
Monthly gross = hourly wage × weekly hours × 52 weeks, divided by 12 months, i.e. an average of 4.33 weeks per month (13/3 weeks). Example: €15/hour at 40 hours a week gives €2,600 monthly gross.
From the monthly gross, this calculator deducts income tax under the official German payroll algorithm (PAP 2026), plus the solidarity surcharge, church tax if applicable, and the social contributions (pension, unemployment, health and long-term care insurance).
Part-time work does not change the method: tax is progressive on the actual gross salary, so fewer hours mean lower gross pay and therefore a lower average tax rate, not a different formula.
The statutory minimum wage in Germany is €13.90 per hour in 2026; pay below that is not allowed for regular employment.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I convert an hourly wage into a monthly salary?
- Hourly wage × weekly hours × 52, divided by 12 (an average of 4.33 weeks per month). Example: €15/hour × 40 hours a week gives €2,600 monthly gross.
- What is the minimum wage in Germany in 2026?
- The statutory minimum wage in 2026 is €13.90 per hour. Pay below that is not allowed for regular employment.
- How much net pay is left from my hourly wage?
- That depends on your tax class, federal state, children and church-tax status. This calculator uses the official 2026 payroll algorithm (PAP) to work it out.
- Does part-time work count differently?
- No, income tax is progressive on the actual gross salary. Fewer hours mean lower gross pay and a lower average tax rate, not a different calculation method.
- Why does my actual net pay differ from this result?
- Possible reasons: the factor method (tax class IV), a different health-insurance top-up rate, allowances on your tax card, or benefits in kind, the same factors as on the main net-salary calculator.
