Job description
Ready to embark on the quest of joining Hack The Box?
Welcome! Super excited you dropped by
At the end of this journey, you'll become a proud member of Hack The Box, with the ultimate mission to raise cyber resilience, so that every organization can stay ahead of tomorrow’s threats.
The core mission of the Senior Network engineer:
As a Senior Network Engineer, you will own the design, deployment and day-to-day reliability of the network fabric that connects Hack The Box's data center footprint across the US, EU, Singapore and Australia. Your work directly underpins the platform experience for millions of users running live cyber simulations — low-latency, high-availability networking isn't a nice-to-have, it's the product.
Design and operate production-grade, multi-site network architectures using BGP, EVPN-VXLAN and JunOS, ensuring our data center interconnects are resilient, observable and ready to scale as HTB grows into new regions.
Location & Work Mode:
- Europe/Greece
- Choose between fully remote work across Europe or relocating to our Athens Tech Hub with relocation support.
Fully Remote / Hybrid (2 days in the office, 3 days remote, plus one month of work from anywhere) - If only in Greece: When hiring in Greece, we’re open to candidates from all locations. Those based within 55 km of our Athens office will follow a hybrid work model. For candidates located beyond that radius, a fully remote arrangement is available.
Relocation
- We offer a 10% relocation bonus on the annual salary to support your move.
- In addition, you would benefit from a 50% tax reduction on your income as part of the relocation.
- We'll support you with accommodation during the first few weeks
The fellowship you’ll be joining:
You will be part of the wider infrastructure team, reporting to the Director of Infrastructure. You will work alongside systems engineers, platform engineers and SREs responsible for bare-metal, virtualization and container platforms. You will also work cross functionally with security operations, product engineering and IT operations
Tools & weapons you’ll be using:
BGP, EVPN-VXLAN, JunOS (Juniper QFX/MX), OSPF, Spine-Leaf / IP Fabric, VLANs, VRFs, Linux networking, Ansible, Terraform, Prometheus / Grafana, Observability tooling
The adventures that await you after becoming Senior Network Engineer at Hack The Box:
- Design and implement spine-leaf network architectures across multiple data center sites in the US, EU, Singapore and Australia
- Operate and troubleshoot BGP (eBGP/iBGP) peering, route policies and prefix filtering in a multi-site environment
- Build and maintain EVPN-VXLAN overlay fabrics for scalable Layer 2/Layer 3 connectivity across data centers
- Configure, upgrade and harden Juniper network equipment (QFX, MX series) running JunOS
- Develop and maintain network automation using Ansible, Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling
- Establish and improve network monitoring, alerting and observability (Prometheus, Grafana, SNMP, streaming telemetry)
- Plan and execute network capacity upgrades, site bring-ups and hardware refresh cycles
- Collaborate with the platform/systems engineering team on network requirements for VMware, Kubernetes and Ceph storage clusters
- Document network designs, runbooks and standard operating procedures for a globally distributed team
- Participate in on-call rotation for network-related incidents across all regions
Skills, knowledge, and experience points required to unlock the role of Senior Network Engineer at Hack The Box:
- 5+ years of professional experience in network engineering, with a focus on data center networking
- Deep hands-on experience with BGP (eBGP/iBGP), including route policies, communities and prefix management across multi-site environments
- Proven experience designing and operating EVPN-VXLAN fabrics
- Strong proficiency with JunOS and Juniper switching/routing platforms (QFX, MX series)
- Solid understanding of spine-leaf / IP fabric architectures, VLANs, VRFs and inter-VLAN routing
- Experience with network automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Nornir or similar)
- Comfortable with Linux networking fundamentals (iptables/nftables, routing, bonding, VXLANs at the host level)
- Strong troubleshooting skills — ability to methodically diagnose complex, multi-layer issues under pressure
- Excellent written communication for documenting designs and collaborating in a remote-first environment
- Being cyber security-minded is a strong plus
Bonus Points:
- Experience with network operations in a multi-region, multi-continent data center environment
- Familiarity with Ceph or other distributed storage systems from a network-performance perspective (NVMEoF, RDMA, high-throughput east-west traffic)
- Exposure to Kubernetes networking (CNI plugins, service meshes, load balancers)
- JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP or equivalent networking certifications
- Understanding of …
