ROLE OVERVIEW :

The Get Discovered team`s vision is to empower small businesses not only to get online - but to get found. That means helping them optimize for search, own their digital presence, advertise effectively, and track what’s working. As an Expert Backend Engineer, you’ll serve as a technical leader with deep backend expertise, driving architecture, system design, reliability, and engineering excellence. You’ll work on scalable backend systems, integrations with external partners, data flows, APIs, and operationally reliable services.

At the same time, this is not a backend-only role. We expect you to contribute meaningfully across the product surface, including frontend work where needed. You should be comfortable collaborating with frontend engineers, understanding React and TypeScript codebases, and helping deliver end-to-end customer value rather than stopping at service boundaries.

Working closely with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering teams, you’ll influence strategic decisions, lead complex technical initiatives, and help shape the future of AI-first software development at Jimdo. This is an expert-level individual contributor role with significant autonomy and influence. You'll act as a technical anchor across teams, championing modern engineering practices and leveraging AI to improve productivity, quality, and innovation.

YOUR IMPACT:

• Design and evolve scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems across frontend, backend, and data layers.
• Lead architectural decisions, define engineering standards, and drive Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
• Own and deliver complex technical initiatives end-to-end, translating business goals into actionable technical roadmaps.
• Contribute meaningfully across the product, leveraging your holistic understanding of the system to help the team deliver complete customer outcomes—including frontend implementation when needed.
• Mentor engineers and elevate technical excellence through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and best-practice development.
• Champion AI-assisted engineering workflows and help teams leverage AI-first development practices.
• Drive improvements in testing, CI/CD, observability, system reliability, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering leadership to influence strategy and deliver customer value.
• Manage operational and technical dependencies with external vendors and partners, including platforms such as Google Workspace, domain providers, email services, and RankingCoach.

WHAT YOU BRING:

• 8+ years of engineering experience in product-led environments, including experience operating at a senior, staff, or principal level.
• Deep backend expertise with technologies such as Kotlin, Java, or Node.js.
• Strong experience designing APIs, distributed systems, service architectures, integrations, and reliable production systems.
• Solid frontend capability, especially with React and TypeScript — you do not need to be frontend-specialized, but you can contribute meaningfully to frontend implementation and technical discussions.
• Proven track record leading large-scale architectural, platform, integration, or modernization initiatives.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, testing strategies, CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence.
• Strong experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders and influencing technical direction across multiple teams.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to mentor and guide engineers.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or similar technologies.
• Experience establishing engineering standards and best practices across an organization.
