Job description
Welcome to Planet. We believe in using space to help life on Earth.
Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history. This constellation delivers an unprecedented dataset of empirical information via a revolutionary cloud-based platform to authoritative figures in commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. We are both a space company and data company all rolled into one.
Customers and users across the globe use Planet's data to develop new technologies, drive revenue, power research, and solve our world’s toughest obstacles.
As we control every component of hardware design, manufacturing, data processing, and software engineering, our office is a truly inspiring mix of experts from a variety of domains.
We have a people-centric approach toward culture and community and we strive to iterate in a way that puts our team members first and prepares our company for growth. Join Planet and be a part of our mission to change the way people see the world.
Planet is a global company with employees working remotely world wide and joining us from offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, and The Netherlands.
About the Role:
The team you will be joining develops, maintains, and upgrades the suite of Area-Monitoring Markers that extract insights from satellite data time series — the central element of the Area Monitoring System (AMS) solution delivered to Common Agricultural Policy paying agencies across Europe.
We are looking for a Solution Delivery Engineer to support the operational execution of our large-scale AMS deliveries in several EU countries. In this role you will be responsible for running and overseeing complex geospatial processing pipelines — from preparing Planet and other satellite data and integrating reference data, through configuring and maintaining signal processing, to fine-tuning marker services.
This is a hands-on operational role with direct contractual impact: you will own delivery timelines, sometimes negotiating them directly with the client, and you will continuously look for opportunities to simplify, automate, and optimize the workflows that make these deliveries possible.
This is a full-time temporary (12 months), remote based in Slovenia, Netherlands or Austria. If located near an office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week.
Impact You’ll Own:
- Execute and oversee end-to-end geospatial processing pipelines for AMS deliveries across several EU countries.
- Prepare Planet daily data for entire national/regional territories and maintain integration of AMS with reference field geometries.
- Configure, maintain, and monitor signal processing services across all declared fields.
- Configure, fine-tune, and operate marker services (like harvest, homogeneity, ploughing, mowing, crop classification, etc).
- Own delivery deadlines for contracted outputs — track progress, anticipate blockers, and align timelines directly with the client where needed.
- Identify and implement workflow optimizations, automations, and reusable components that reduce AMS-CAP delivery effort across the team.
- Collaborate daily with the data scientists and developers in the base team, and across dependent teams to keep deliveries on track.
- Collect feedback from clients and partners, translate it into actionable improvements, and help resolve issues that come up during delivery.
What You Bring:
- 4+ years of relevant work experience.
- Working knowledge of the GIS domain — comfortable reasoning about geospatial data, projections, raster/vector workflows, and satellite imagery.
- Operational mindset: comfortable executing, monitoring, and troubleshooting complex multi-step pipelines, with attention to detail and a sense of ownership over outcomes.
- Awareness of and respect for delivery deadlines, with the ability to communicate timelines and trade-offs clearly to both internal teams and external clients.
- Curiosity about how processes work end-to-end, and a habit of looking for ways to simplify, automate, or optimize them.
- Highly technical mindset — comfortable picking up new tools, reading logs, and reasoning about data flows across services.
- Cross-functional collaboration skills — able to work effectively with data scientists, developers, and client stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate in English, the working language of the company.
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Experience with Python programming, particularly for data processing or geospatial workflows.
- Familiarity with the agricultural domain or the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and area-based payment schemes.
- Experience with Earth Observation data (Planet, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-1) and time-series analysis.
- Familiarity with cloud-based data processing, workflow orchestration, or pipeline tooling.
- Prior experience interacting with clients on technical delivery topics.
