Job description
About us
We see the semiconductor industry as a realm of possibility. We see opportunity. We see the profound impact that our graphene solutions will have in transforming the industry. We invite you to join us in driving change with our fundamentally human-centered approach, uniting bright minds around a shared vision. The vision is: Prove to everybody that you can make a fundamental change. Prove with your knowledge and skills how things can be done differently. Together, we can change the paradigm of how the world connects
About our technology
The semiconductor industry’s growing demand for more powerful chips with higher bandwidth and lower power finds its solution in our technology. We connect chips to high-throughput, low-delay computing networks. The key lies in harnessing the physical properties of graphene to combine electronic computing with photonic communication, allowing countless chips to interact almost as if they were one. Our graphene photonic innovation increases computing power and efficiency to a new order of magnitude
In short, we connect chips to create powerful and energy-efficient networks, overcoming connectivity limitations in the semiconductor industry. We deliver the graphene solution
The Role
Black Semiconductor is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our Characterization Team and support the development of next-generation integrated graphene photonics technology. In this role, you will perform device testing and characterization, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, support process development activities, and contribute to data analysis and documentation as we scale our technology toward manufacturing.
To join our team, you should be excited to:
- Perform testing and characterization of graphene photonics devices, including modulators, photodetectors, integrated circuits, and optical I/O components.
- Execute electrical, optical, and optoelectronic measurements to validate device performance against specifications and quality requirements.
- Support testing of PIC, EIC, and EPIC devices using advanced characterization equipment, including optical analyzers, photodetection systems, and RF test instruments.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment while ensuring compliance with safety and quality procedures; coordinate maintenance and repairs with vendors.
- Collect, analyze, and document characterization data, generate test reports, and maintain measurement and reliability databases to support statistical process control (SPC), yield monitoring, reliability testing, and failure analysis.
- Assist in the implementation and optimization of test procedures, automated measurement solutions, and production test processes.
- Support Design-for-Test (DFT) validation, supplier qualification activities, and incoming material characterization.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, test procedures, work instructions, and laboratory records.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance test efficiency, data quality, and laboratory operations.
Your Qualifications
- B.S. in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field; or a completed vocational training with relevant industry experience.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in semiconductor, photonic, or optoelectronic device testing and characterization.
- Experience working in a laboratory, cleanroom, manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with semiconductor and photonic characterization equipment, including wafer-level measurement systems, electrical and optical probing, and advanced test instrumentation.
- Experience with automated test routines and measurement software using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools for data acquisition, analysis, and visualization.
- Knowledge of measurement uncertainty, calibration procedures, quality control practices, and laboratory documentation standards.
- Experience maintaining laboratory equipment and supporting equipment uptime through preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of cleanroom protocols, contamination control, ESD guidelines, and optical safety procedures.
